David Brown was a retired vet from Kenya who specialised in curtailing Rindapest. While abroad he took his wages in cash that immediately translated into drawings by artists of the British School. He knew and cultivated Roger Hilton, Terry Frost and other Cornish artists. I have a memory of visiting Duncan Grant with Jane Becket when David gave Dunc a nudge and said "If these walls could speak eh? Duncan". He retrained at Norwich, the MA I think. I remember him chainsmoking roll-ups, shortly after I had handed in my Rizlas. In 1974 he became Assistant Keeper at the Tate (not to be confused with David Blamey Brown) his portrait by Maggie Hambling is on the Tate website. He died in 2002.
