Stow Wengenroth (1906-1978) one of the finest of twentieth century lithographers whose work (often of New England locations) sometimes tended to the rustic simplistic but on this occasion shows his fine command of line, tone and composition on an industrial subject. I wish he had done more. There is also much to admire in his city scenes, some as atmospheric and meticulously planned as Martin Lewis at his best. There is a large collection of Wengenroth's work at Brown University Library and in the Boston Public Library American Print Collection.

The double page industrial landscape, adding a dark resonance of colour to the spreads is by that fine painter Ernest Fiene.
