Victor De Pauw (1902- 1971) Born in Belgium, his family emigated to Canada when he was six. In the First World war he served in the Canadian Navy on Mine Sweepers. Beetter kniown between the Wars as a Society acricaturist. He started his art education in California in 1921 and won a scholarship at the Art Students' League to study in New York. Apart from his extensive career in prints and paintings, he was the originator of the comic, There Oughta be a Law. Showshoe Thompson was one of his illustrated books for children. He was responsible for several excellent New Yorker and Traveller magazine covers.
