TOP ROW

Alhazen, The Optics (Opticae Thesaurus...) , Eusebius Episcopius & Nikolai, Basel, 1572, titlepage with examples of the application of optics.

Adams Small Quadrant, from the Navigation section of the Royal Encyclopedia 1788 - 1790, detail 9 x 14cms

Charles Saltonstall, The Navigator, printed by Hurlock, London in 1636 and a fine indication of the self-image of seafaring folk.

BOTTOM ROW

This book is a sensational structure of drawn grids for navigators with the most minor and, to me, incomprehensible variables. I have owned it for thirty years without understanding it, but loved it for its dogged accuracy and superb colour variables within the Grid. It measures 36 x 22cms.
