The figurines in the first section of Simple Destiny were contributed by Crockwell's neighbour, the sculptor David Jones. Crockwell plays with abstract forms and expressive surges of colour not unlike the diagrams from Theosophic manuals of thought. Motifs from his diagrams of the processes of Physics intrude here and there. One calligraphic gesture unfolds in a pattern I thought I had recognised from Tristram Shandy.

Most significantly his animations show a ceaseless exploration of technical processes that change restlessly during his short animated sequences, paint between glass sheets, finger painting, and interaction with wax. See Unseen Cinema, Early American Avant-Garde Film 1894-1941, volume 3, Light Rhythms, Music and Abstraction (although both films are interntionally silent).

Glen Falls? It was where he and family lived.
