Arthur Barbosa (1908 - 1995) was a prolific illustrator and designer of book jackets and covers, associated particularly with Georgette Hayer. He was born in Liverpool and later exhibited in London with the Pandemonium Group that included Nicolas Bentley and Victor Reinganum. He specialised in costume and its history, becoming a stage designer, much of which can be seen in the costume exotica seen above. He was unsuual in that a large proportion of his professional output was commissioned from America.
